Guide: Quest2 for First Time Users

Booting Up and Signing In:

  1. Turn on the Quest2 headset by holding the button on the right side.

  2. Plug the USB-C cable into the headset, then into the PC.

  3. Look into the headset.

  4. Sign in using the master account provided by the professor.

  5. Accept both prompts. If you do not see the “Allow Link” prompt, go to step 5.1 and launch manually.

    1. Instructions for manual launch: Go to Settings .

      Hover the left-hand bar that has the time, battery info, etc. and select settings. A pop up window should appear.



    2. In the pop-up, select the Oculus Link button on the right.

    The Oculus App:

  1. Open the Oculus app on the PC.

  2. Select “sign in with meta”. If the Quest software does not open up a new tab in your web browser go to step 2.1 and launch manually.

    1. Hold down the Windows + R keys at the same time.

    2. Type in https://google.com in the bottom left tab that appears on your screen and click OK.

    3. A new window should pop up asking which web browser you would like to use to open the link.

    4. Click Chrome along with the small checkbox at the bottom of this screen that states “Always use this program”.

    5. Oculus should open up in a new chrome tab. If not, restart the oculus software and repeat steps 1 and 2 again.

  1. Click sign in with email on the Oculus web browser page.

  2. Use the provided email - NOT YOUR PERSONAL OR SCHOOL EMAIL

  3. See professor or visit [site] for the password.

    Note: If the following error occurs, please see the “VR Downloads Error” section.

  4. Open the Oculus App.

  5. Make, add, or connect your headset if needed.

  6. Finally, open Unreal. Make sure that the VR preview option is not greyed out.


VR Downloads Error:

  1. Close the Oculus app.

  2. Open the Command Prompt. (Type CMD into the Windows search bar).

  3. Copy and paste the following registry key into the command prompt and press enter.

    REG ADD "HKCU\Software\Oculus VR, LLC\Oculus\Libraries"
  4. Restart the Oculus software. Upon completion again of the steps above the headset should connect. If you do no see a connection, follow these steps:

    1. Put your oculus headset back on. You need to allow access to files.

    2. To do this: open the menu on the headset. Click the notifications (bell icon). Click yes to allow access to files.

    3. Relaunch PC Oculus software. The login should now work.
