Digital Cinema Package (DCP) Delivery & Screening Sepcifications
MAGIC Spell Studios provides two DCI compliant theaters for screening content formatted for Digital Cinema via a Digital Cinema Package (DCP). The following information is provided for those who wish to deliver DCPs to MAGIC and screen in one of the theaters.

MAGIC Projection Capabilities
MAGIC’s Wegmans Theater and Color Correction suite are capable of the following:
Wegmans Theater (MSS-2180)
- SMPTE & IOP Standard DCP playback via Dolby IMS3000 & Christie CP4325-RGB Laser projection
- Encrypted DCP playback capable
- DCI 2K & 4K image resultions in the Flat (1.85:1) or Scope (2.35:1) aspect ratios
- Integer frame rates from 24-48 fps
- Acceptable sound formats: Stereo, 5.1, 7.1, and Dolby ATMOS (58 Speakers)
Color Correction Suite (MSS-2160)
- SMPTE & IOP Standard DCP playback via Dolby IMS3000 & Christie CP4325-RGB Laser projection
- Encrypted DCP playback capable
- DCI 2K & 4K image resultions in the Flat (1.85:1) or Scope (2.35:1) aspect ratios
- Integer frame rates from 24-48 fps
- Acceptable sound formats: Stereo, 5.1, 7.1
Acceptable DCP Formats
DCP Standard Encodings: IOP or SMPTE, encrypted or unencrypted
DCP Name: must follow ISDCF naming convention
Image Resolutions (24 to 48 fps)
- 2K Flat 1998 x 1080
- 2K Scope 2048 x 858
- 4K Flat 3996 x 2160
- 4K Scope 4096 x 1716
Sound Formats (must follow ISDCF channel mapping)
- Stereo (2ch)
- 5.1 Surround
- 7.1 Surround
- Dolby ATMOS (Wegmans Theater Only)
Our standard Dolby Fader Level for playback is 5.5.
Delivery Policies for QC and Events
For RIT SOFA Screenigns Studient Submissions: Deliver to MAGIC Tech or FVASA by the screenings signup deadline.
For all other MAGIC Events
- All DCPs are requested be recieved 7 days prior to the screening event to enable verifcation of the DCP and provide opportunity for tech check
- All DCP tech checks/QC should occur no later than 24 hours prior to the screening time
- All DCPs must be recieved no later that 48 hours in advance of the screening time (no tech check)
For Encrypted DCPs: DCP KDMs should be sent directly to arsmss@rit.edu (and/or arkpph@rit.edu as a backup)
- Playback windows should be enabled for a minimum of 6 hours prior to the screening event AND 2 hours after the end of the intended screening time
- Playback windows should also be enabled for any tech check/QC window
Acceptable Delivery Methods
MAGIC can accept DCPs in one of the following ways:
- Secure FTP/network delivery (client provided) - please deliver to arsmss@rit.edu (and/or arkpph@rit.edu as a backup)
- Physical delivery via mail - securely send a disk drive (SSD preferred) via mail to

- Amanda Hughes' office (MSS-3105)
For delivery via physical drive: Drives should be formatted in one of the following ways
- EXT3 (for direct ingest into thesystem)
- exFAT, APFS/HFS+ (MacOS), NTFS (Windows) - any format mountable to a standard Windows/Mac desktop for file transfer
